Mile 0 – Where ARE we going?

As we said on the home page, the future for many organisations is often undefined because the teams at the very top often haven’t talked about it enough. They don’t spend the time having the relevant conversations to define their collective future, both individually and as a group. The result is that they can’t communicate it to their teams or, better yet, get their teams involved in creating it.

The first stage of any journey is to identify the destination – in detail – so  the first steps of travel can be planned, the right things packed for the journey and the risks identified.

How do we do this?

Decisions about the future cannot be taken in isolation from the past. We look at the story of the organisation: how did we get here? Where are we now? What do we want to achieve? Where do we want to be in 3-5 years – what does it look like? What shape does the organisation need to be in to deliver that? What does the highway to get us there look like?

These questions are answered using 1:1 meetings, facilitation of workshops that focus on building the relationships and defining the agenda to provide a solid foundation for the future.

So, the route and destination are defined taking account of the past as well as the input from both the leadership team and the wider organisation to build a common view of the future.
